Miniature of 'Bird’s Nest' structure
(BEIJING, January 28) -- A model of the first truss structure of the National Stadium, now an Olympic licensed product, became the only Olympic treasure falling under the industrial collection category.
The product is a 1:100 scale model of the first of the stadium's 24 trusses. The material of the model piece comes purely from residual steel from the stadium and was cast through precise founding technologies.
From a technological standpoint, the steel structure of the National Stadium was the most difficult part of the project. Woven with 24 columns of trusses and other secondary steel parts, the steel roof structure looks like two saddles, curved on two sides. The south-north structural height is only 40 meters, while the east-west structural height is 69 meters. The axis span of the structure ranges from 298 meters to 333 meters. And the entire success of the project began with the first steel truss.
As the only product licensed both by the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) and the National Stadium, the article is issued with a limited circulation of 5,000 pieces. The steel sculpture is 50.5 mm tall and weighs 10.5 kilograms,costing 29,800 yuan per piece.
According to the designers, every piece has its own certificate of authenticity, with half of it deposited at the notary office. It took about three weeks to finish the notarization process.
