(BEIJING, January 15) -- Last September, Air China Limited began a program to recruit 300 new flight attendants to serve the airline's Olympic flights this summer. Through interviews assessing their appearance, English skills and overall character, the finalists were selected out of more than 5,000 applicants in Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
Recently 62 outstanding members of the newly recruited flight attendants were in Beijing to train for a final contest to be held January 23, reported The First.

Practicing their smiles
The topics covered at training camp range from in flight-services to appearance. Trainees learn how to mix cocktails and differentiate between various tools for serving different items aboard flights.
Special emphasis is given to body language. For example, flight attendants must give a courteous 15- or 30-degree bow as they greet boarding or deplaning passengers. The trainees are taught about "personal space"; when interacting with passengers, they should maintain a one- to 1.5-meter distance.

Learning to kneel
The women also receive special training in makeup application and hair styling, as the goal is for a polished, professional appearance that appeals to an international clientele.
